Complete the Cycle Scheme – Reducing Medicines Waste to Landfill

Complete the Cycle Scheme – Reducing Medicines Waste to Landfill

June 4, 2019

If you are not already signed up, GSK is asking you to volunteer to join the Complete the Cycle scheme which allows patients to safely dispose of their empty or unused inhalers by recycling them via the pharmacy.

Advantages of the Scheme

  • It recycles and recovers respiratory inhalers and is run by GSK.
  • Frees up space in usual clinical waste containers
  • Plastic and aluminium parts are recycled and not sent to landfill
  • The patient can leave the inhaler at the pharmacy to be deposited into a collection box
  • Inhalers manufactured by any Company can be returned.  Inhalers will be collected as part of routine deliveries arranged by GSK.
  • NICE are encouraging the use of greener asthma inhalers and have produced a patient decision aid to help patients understand the environmental impact of their devices.

Currently 30% of Pharmacies across Devon are signed up but there is great potential to make the service accessible to many more patients. If you are interested in signing up, please contact the GSK Account Management Team on 0800 221441 (Option 2, Option 2).
