Consulting with Older People
Thursday, 17 March, 2016 7.30pm - 9.30pm
Dart's Farm, Topsham EX3 0QH
Organised by CPPE
The number of people over 85 years of age in the UK is predicted to double over the next 20 years. Consultations with older people are commonplace in pharmacy practice, but increasing complexity around medicines and conditions can present challenges. Fifty-three percent of adults agree that once you reach very old age, people tend to treat you as a child. Supporting the older person in making decisions around their medicines and health while promoting dignity and respect is a vital part of the role of every healthcare professional.
This workshop is part of the Consultation skills for pharmacy practice programme which can be accessed via the Consultation skills for pharmacy website. It will support the pharmacy team in adapting their consultations to the needs of the older person to ensure a patient-centred approach.
