Sentinel – Plymouth Pharmacy Based NHS Health Checks


Background:

The NHS have been offering Health Checks since April 2009 to all patients aged between 40 and 74 not on an existing disease register to help prevent the development of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease as well as carry out an alcohol assessment and improve dementia  awareness.

NHS Health Checks are normally offered through patients GP surgeries. Across the Plymouth area 8 GP Practices have decided to opt out of the programme, Public Health Plymouth have commissioned Sentinel Healthcare to initially provide a new service that offers NHS Health Checks through 7 designated pharmacies.

  • Glenside Medical Centre
  • Knowle House Surgery
  • Pathfields Practice
  • Peverell Park Surgery
  • St Levan  Surgery

The following GP practices have now opted
out of the service:

  • Armada  Surgery
  • Beacon Medical Group (excluding Ivybridge)
  • Boots Drake Circus
  • Boots Ridgeway
  • King Street Pharmacy
  • TCE O’Gallaghers (Ebrington Street)
  • The Pharmacy St Levan
  • Well Chaddlewood, District Shopping Centre
  • Well Crownhill, Knowle House Surgery

Pharmacy Staff Training:

Training for the new service will take place over 2 evenings, Wednesday the 20 and 27 January 2016 at The Copthorne Hotel, Armada Way, Plymouth starting at 7pm with food, the training each evening starting at 7.30pm

We would expect a minimum of 3 to 4 members of staff per pharmacy to attend and due to the clinical nature of the training a pharmacist will need to attend the sessions.
